ABIDE - DAY 6

Others are counting on our faith
Let’s Read
Mark 2: And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house. 2 Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. 3 Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. 4 And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”6 And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7 “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 8 But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things in your hearts? 9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the paralytic, 11 “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” 12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”
What a powerful story! But something inside them drew them to carry that man all the way to where Jesus was. After seeing the place packed out with people, they carried this man up to the top if the house, ripped the roof off, and lowered this man down to where Jesus was. That is some real faith!
We are surrounded by people everyday who are paralyzed in one way or another. God has strategically placed His kids (us) in their path in order to bring them into a love encounter with Him. This paralyzed man would still be paralyzed if these 4 men didn’t have faith. But they did, and because they did they were willing to go above and beyond just to get this man into the path of Jesus.
This is the place we were meant to ABIDE in, where our faith is so strong, that others around us are able to encounter Jesus.

I've always loved this reading and I always remember the night my 8 year old daughter was relaying it to me after her New Creations study group. When she got to the part when Jesus told the man to pick up his mat and walk, she kicked her feet off the floor and sprang back on the sofa and yelled, " I love this part when Jesus says that to him." I was amazed at her reaction because of her age but in that moment I saw that she knew the power in Jesus to heal. In His one command it gave the man the ability to get up and walk! She didn't get caught up in the obvious fact that the man got healed as much as she was enthralled
by Jesus' command. I guess I would sum this up to say Jesus said it. I believe it. Let's get on with it and get it done!
