ABIDE - DAY 3

Faith in the word of God

Let’s Read

Matt. 8: 5-13 - Faith in His word
5 And when Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, imploring Him, 6 and saying, “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, fearfully tormented.” 7 Jesus *said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the centurion said, “Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.” 10 Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who were following, “Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel. 11 I say to you that many will come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven; 12 but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go; it shall be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed that very moment.

There was something very special about this encounter with the centurion that God wanted highlighted for each of us. The centurion knew that Jesus did not need to be there in person in order for his servant to be made well. How did he know? He understood authority. Jesus is the ultimate authority and when He speaks, whatever He says is a done deal. Jesus called the centurions willingness to just believe, “great faith”.  This is the faith that we are called to ABIDE in. To know that when God speaks, whether through the scriptures (logos) or to us individually (Rhema) there is a grace on what He speaks containing the power to carry His word out in our lives.

God spoke through the prophet Isaiah and said “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it produce and sprout, And providing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it.

Paul said “ Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the Word of God” Romans 10:17 so we need set ourselves in a place where we can hear (ie. reading scripture, prayer time, worship, quiet meditation with Him, etc.) this is place where our faith will grow strong! From here, our faith becomes unshakable.

What He said will happen! This is a place for us to ABIDE in.
